Lots of people think Craft is less important than Art. It’s been dismissed as a hobby or something handmade by your grandma. But craft has always been a key part of the activist’s toolkit – now more than ever. Through craft, we have the power to create something entirely new with our own hands. To start a conversation and tackle social, political and environmental issues.
Over the course of 5 weeks, this program will explore forms of craft that have always been connected with activist movements: posters, banners, badges, storytelling and zines. We will create loud and proud craftworks that speak up about issues (big and small) that are impacting young people in our community.
At the end of the workshop series, we will launch an exhibition of our work at St Albans Community Centre, designed and curated by the young workshop participants. The exhibition will open at 6pm on 1 July 2022.
