Mental Health Art Exhibition at Sydenham Library

Manny

Artists with lived experience of mental health challenges have been commissioned to produce stunning works for a new campaign around Brimbank and Melton. Over the next two months, artworks by different artists will appear in various locations around Brimbank and Melton, with the aim of changing perceptions around the difficult but important subject of mental health and suicide prevention. The first artist to be exhibited is Brimbank local Manny Sison, who will present six new works at the Sydenham Library. Manny builds colourful and thought-provoking 3D illustrations that reflect on his own experiences with mental health challenges. “I often use universal symbols and metaphors in my work in accessible ways to increase the chances of connecting with people,” he says. “The pieces will start as concept sketches and turn into layered paper illustrations.” The artworks will be accompanied by QR codes, to make it easy for people to access information about support services and North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network’s (NWMPHN) suicide prevention work.
