Wanting to challenge herself and explore her own sense of female empowerment Xiang Li embarked on a gruelling 5000km round trip to Central Australia. Over the course of her journey she painted and Xiang’s car was covered in the red dust for which the exhibition is named. The artwork created in response to this trip are as much a depiction of the artist’s emotional connection to the land and culture of Australia as they are a representation of the beautiful vistas. As Xiang says “life is just like a road trip, and it is never about the destination. It is about the people we met and the experience we had”.
