Still Here Exhibition

Still Here Exhibition

The Bowery Gallery in collaboration with Melbourne’s Living Museum of the West presents Still Here. The exhibition is a powerful, grassroots exhibition exploring the continuing presence and resilience of Aboriginal people in Melbourne’s western suburbs. Presented across a series of hand-made portable panels, the exhibition traces histories from pre-invasion life through to contemporary stories of activism, culture, and survival.

Told from a Koorie perspective, Still Here honours ancestors, addresses racism and dispossession, and highlights cultural continuity. It emerged from a need to recognise local Aboriginal voices and histories in a region heavily impacted by early colonisation.

Originally created in 1996 the exhibition continues to speak to strength, connection, and the importance of telling local stories, truthfully and on Aboriginal terms.
