Primary Artistic Discipline: Visual Art
augustine ang is a paper collage artist, paper animator, collage workshop facilitator, and Master of Therapeutic Arts student (third year). he is passionate about exploring how the combination of embodiment practices and collage might allow us to dive deeper into our inner worlds. his explorations contain reflections and research on how living beings, culture, and the natural world are interconnected through universal rhythms and cycles. these reflections are often explored with different approaches to engaging with paper - including but not limited to cutting, slicing, ripping, scratching, stretching.
augustine’s art evoke a range of qualities from simple to complex, light to heavy, fun, curious, deep, poignant, absurd, or just plain weird! augustine is interested in: the mystery and absurdity of life and death, dancing with a balance of structured order and fluid play, the importance of movement and the body in creative practice, meeting creative process with a curious baby energy, creating opportunities for the community to come together and create alongside one another.
augustine creates from brimbank, melbourne/narrm. identifying as a person of colour and asian austrxlian, he was born and raised in north-west melbourne to migrant parents from malaysia and singapore, with chinese/indonesian roots.
