Katrina Lolicato is a woman of Sicilian, Calabrese and Abruzzese heritage, living and creating on Kulin Nation Country. A founding member of the Sicilian Arts Collective Australia, she works with oral histories, environmental sound, sonic ethnography, home archives and found footage to splice fragments of memory into textured portraits of Australian life. Her practice is intentionally unrefined and a little kitsch, yet always searching, critical and hopeful. With her sister Gracie and through deep collaborations with artists and communities, Katrina develops participatory works that weave together visual sociology, placemaking and critical heritage. Her projects have illuminated laneways, libraries and festivals including White Night, Midsummer, Emerging Writers Festival and Museo Italiano. In 2020 she was awarded the Multicultural Commission Victoria Award for Excellence, and in 2022 her first short film Her, Grace was shortlisted at the Multicultural Film Festival, selected for Melbourne International Documentary Film Festival, and screened on SBS On Demand.
