Primary Artistic Discipline: Visual Art
Lisa Buckland is a Melbourne based visual artist working in a combination of acrylics, watercolours and sumi ink. Her work examines identities, connections and the human psyche, using the talisman of nature. Her story telling is highly personal. Poignant imagery of wildlife and flora aim to bring a sense of wonder in the beauty of the natural world which she loves. Lisa hopes to evoke a response to the impacts of climate change on our native species and vulnerable environment. Her evocative, colourful and slightly whimsical works are influenced by Japanese art and woodblock printing and her experience of graphic design, screen printing and photography. Colour and mark-making are prioritised over realistic representation, the lines and marks of her Asian brushes allowing her work to retain a fluidity of movement. Lisa's practice also includes digital drawing and she now sketches all her ideas in this medium.
