Mito Elias, originally from Cape Verde, is a multidisciplinary artist and community art facilitator with over three decades of experience. With a background in Art and Communication from AR.CO in Lisbon, Portugal, Mito’s work explores identity, migration, and cultural exchange, deeply influenced by his global experiences in the USA, Brazil, Macau, and Australia.
His unique visual language, Mare Calamus, integrates wash, writing, and multimedia techniques, reflecting oral traditions and Creole storytelling. Mito has exhibited internationally, showcasing his art at prominent venues such as the World Bank, Afro-Brazilian Museum, and the Council of Ethnic Communities of Victoria.
Since 2013, he has fostered community engagement through Fandata Studio in Melbourne, emphasizing transformative art experiences. Mito’s art embodies the intersection of memory, culture, and the African diaspora, creating spaces for dialogue and reflection across diverse communities. His work resonates with universal themes, bridging gaps between past and present.
