We had a chat with artist Olive Gilbert to talk about her most recent exhibition 'Market/Place', inspiration and what to expect from the exhibition.

Olive Gilbert is a Westside based arts worker and maker. Olive Made is her creative practice and bag label. Her designs incorporate unusual textures and bold colours becoming unique pieces that are functional and made to be seen!

Describe yourself in one sentence

I’d rather be crocheting

What is your chosen medium(s) and why?

Textiles, yarn , sewing and crochet- often materials collected from op shops along the way

What can we expect from your residency and exhibition at Sunshine Art Spaces Gallery?

Lots of colour and familiar scenes from the neighbourhood.

What do you want people to take away from Market/Research?

The enthusiasm to look at their surrounds with fresh eyes. And a new piece of art!

What/who inspires you?

Evie and her eye for things, Op shopping, holidays, YouTube craft tutorials

What is coming up next for you?

I’m working as an Associate producer for RISING Festival Melbourne which will be delivered in June this year.
